LIBRARIES
STAFF
If the Main Library is to remain open until a reasonable hour in the evening (7.30 or 8 p.m.), the present staff will need to be reorganized and slightly increased, preferably from the Academic Year 1950-51.
It is recommended that a Head Librarian be appointed to take charge of both the Main and the Fung Ping Shan Libraries, and a full-time Assistant Librarian for the Fung Ping Shan Library, and that junior staff of the Main Library be strengthened by the regrading of one Grade II Clerk on present establishment to Grade I and the appointment of a further Library Attendant. If the Medical Library is withdrawn from the Main Library a further Assistant Librari an will be required.
Expenditure would then increase roughly as follows:

13. POS TGRADUATE STUDENTSHIPS
$28,140 p.a.
It is recommended that Studentships be made available for graduates and senior students of this University who have shown particular ability. These might be of the value of $1,800 a year plus free tuition, for one year with a possible extension to two years. Holders would be expected to do up to a maximum of 6 hours a week practical demonstration or tutorial work, and may work for a higher degree at the discretion of the Senate.
reasonable number of these, available for study in all Departments, would cost between $25,000 and $40,000 a year, to be costed amongst Departments participating.
